Asked in GUJCET 2024 · Potential of shells and spheres
Given: shell radius R = 10 cm, surface potential 100 V; the point at r = 2 cm lies inside the shell.
Idea: inside a charged spherical shell the field is zero (Gauss's law: a sphere drawn inside encloses no charge).
Zero field means (dV)/(dr) = 0, so V is the same everywhere inside and equals its value on the surface.
So the potential at 2 cm from the centre is 100 V.
