Step-by-step solution

The two cells oppose each other (their like terminals face each other at E), so the net emf is 10-5=5 V, in the direction the 10 V cell drives.

Total resistance round the loop: 2+1+7=10 Ω.

I=5/(10)=0.5 A.

The 10 V cell pushes current out of its long (positive) plate, towards E and on to B: the current is from A to B through E.
