A body of mass 500 g moves along the x-axis such that its velocity varies with displacement x according to the relation v=10√x m/s. The force acting on the body is

Asked in JEE Main 11th April 2nd Shift 2023 · Position- and velocity-dependent forces

Answer: (4) 25 N

Step-by-step solution

Idea: the speed is given against position, so the acceleration is a=v(dv)/(dx).

v=10√x, so (dv)/(dx)=(10)/(2√x)=5/(√x).

a=v(dv)/(dx)=10√x×5/(√x)=50 m/s², a constant.

F=ma=0.5×50=25 N.

The √x cancelling is the point: a speed going as √x is exactly uniform acceleration.
