Given: slab thickness 4 cm=4×10⁻² m, refractive index 1.5.
Idea: inside the slab light travels at v=c/n, so the time to cross is t/v=(nt)/c.
Here (nt)/c=(1.5×4×10⁻²)/(3×10⁸).
The numerator is 6×10⁻², so the time is (6×10⁻²)/(3×10⁸)=2×10⁻¹⁰ s.
Light crosses a centimetre-thick piece of glass in a fraction of a nanosecond.
