A conducting coil having N turns and cross-sectional area A is kept with its plane perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field B. If the number of turns of the coil is doubled, the magnetic flux linked with the coil becomes ______.

Asked in GSEB Board March 2022 · Flux through a surface

Answer: (4) 2NBA

Step-by-step solution

Given: N turns of area A, plane perpendicular to B, so each turn links flux BA.

Idea: the flux linked with a coil is the flux through one turn multiplied by the number of turns, NΦ = NBA.

Doubling the turns: N → 2N, while B and A are unchanged.

New flux linkage = (2N)BA = 2NBA.

So the flux linked with the coil becomes 2NBA.
