Idea: volume charge density is the charge per unit volume.
ρ=(Δ q)/(Δ V)
Charge is in coulomb and volume in cubic metre, so the unit is C/(m³)=C m⁻³.
For comparison, σ (per area) is in C m⁻² and λ (per length) is in C m⁻¹.
So the unit of volume charge density is C m⁻³.
