Step-by-step solution

Given (figure): five resistors, each r. Points T and M are joined by a plain wire, so they are one node.

Between X and that node the top-left and middle-left resistors are in parallel: (r· r)/(r + r) = r/2.

Between that node and Y the top-right and middle-right resistors are in parallel: r/2.

The two pairs are in series: r/2 + r/2 = r.

The bottom resistor r also joins X to Y, in parallel with this: R_XY = (r· r)/(r + r) = r/2.
