A power transmission line feeds input power at 2300 V to a step-down transformer with its primary windings having 5000 turns. What should be the number of turns in the secondary in order to get output power at 230 V?

Asked in GSEB Board July 2023 · Transformers

Answer: (3) 500

Step-by-step solution

Given: Vₚ=2300 V, Nₚ=5000, required Vₛ=230 V.

Idea: the same changing flux links every turn of both coils, so the emf per turn is the same and (Vₛ)/(Vₚ)=(Nₛ)/(Nₚ).

Nₛ=Nₚ×(Vₛ)/(Vₚ)=5000×(230)/(2300)=500.

So the secondary needs 500 turns.
