A power transmission line feeds input power at 3300 V to a step-down transformer with its primary windings having 2000 turns. What should be the number of turns in the secondary in order to get output power at 330 V?

Asked in GSEB Board March 2020 · Transformers

Answer: (1) 200

Step-by-step solution

Given: Vₚ = 3300 V, Nₚ = 2000, Vₛ = 330 V.

Idea: in an ideal transformer every turn links the same changing flux, so each turn has the same emf: (Vₛ)/(Vₚ) = (Nₛ)/(Nₚ).

Nₛ = Nₚ×(Vₛ)/(Vₚ) = 2000×(330)/(3300) = 200.

So the secondary needs 200 turns.
