What is the approximate percentage value of maximum voltage to its rms value in LCR AC circuit?

Asked in GUJCET 2025 · RMS and mean values

Answer: (4) 141.4%

Step-by-step solution

Idea: for any sinusoidal a.c. quantity the rms value is 1/(√2) of the peak value. The √2 comes from the sine shape alone, so it does not matter that the circuit is an LCR one.

So Vᵣₘₛ=(V₀)/(√2), which rearranges to (V₀)/(Vᵣₘₛ)=√2=1.414.

As a percentage: 1.414×100=141.4%.

So the maximum voltage is about 141.4% of the rms value — the same margin that makes a 220 V mains supply peak at about 311 V.
