The capacity of a pure capacitor is 1 farad in a d.c. circuit. Then what will be its capacitive reactance?

Asked in GUJCET 2013 · Behaviour of R, L and C separately

Answer: (2) Infinite

Step-by-step solution

Idea: capacitive reactance is X_C=1/(ω C)=1/(2π fC).

In a d.c. circuit the frequency is zero, f=0.

X_C=1/(2π×0×1)→∞, whatever the capacitance.

Once charged, the capacitor lets no steady current through: it blocks d.c.

So its capacitive reactance is infinite.
