In a certain thermodynamic process the pressure of a gas depends on its volume as kV³. The work done when the temperature changes from 100°C to 300°C will be ______ nR, where n denotes the number of moles of the gas.

Asked in JEE Main 25th Feb 1st Shift 2021 · Work from a Stated P-V Law

Answer: 50

Step-by-step solution

P=kV³, so W=∫_V₁^V₂kV³dV=k/4(V₂⁴-V₁⁴)=(P₂V₂-P₁V₁)/4.

For an ideal gas PV=nRT, so W=(nR(T₂-T₁))/4.

T₂-T₁=200 K, so W=(200nR)/4=50 nR.
