One mole of an ideal gas passes through a process in which the pressure and volume obey the relation P=P₀[1-1/2((V₀)/V)²], where P₀ and V₀ are constants. Calculate the change in the temperature of the gas if its volume changes from V₀ to 2V₀.

Asked in JEE Main 10th April 2nd Shift 2019 · Work from a Stated P-V Law

Answer: (2) 5/4(P₀V₀)/R

Step-by-step solution

T=(PV)/R=(P₀V)/R[1-1/2((V₀)/V)²].

At V=V₀: T₁=(P₀V₀)/R(1-1/2)=(P₀V₀)/(2R).

At V=2V₀: T₂=(2P₀V₀)/R(1-1/8)=(7P₀V₀)/(4R).

Δ T=(7P₀V₀)/(4R)-(2P₀V₀)/(4R)=5/4(P₀V₀)/R.
