The charge on the capacitor of capacitance 15 μ F in the circuit shown is [capacitors of 10 μ F, 15 μ F and 20 μ F are joined one after another in a single line, i.e. in series, and the combination is connected across a 13 V battery]

Answer: (1) 60 μC

Step-by-step solution

In series every capacitor carries the same charge, so find the equivalent capacitance first.

1/(C_eq)=1/(10)+1/(15)+1/(20)=(6+4+3)/(60)=(13)/(60), so C_eq=(60)/(13) μ F.

Q=C_eqV=(60)/(13)×13=60 μC.

Every capacitor, including the 15 μ F one, therefore carries 60 μC.
