The unit of magnetisation (M) is _____ .

Asked in GSEB Board July 2022 · Magnetisation, intensity and susceptibility

Answer: (1) A m⁻¹

Step-by-step solution

Idea: magnetisation is the net magnetic dipole moment per unit volume, M=(mₙₑₜ)/V.

Magnetic moment is current times area, so its unit is A m²; volume is in m³.

[M]=(A m²)/(m³)=A m⁻¹.

The magnetising field H has the same unit, as it must, since M=χ H with χ a pure number.
