A current I passes through an inductor of self-inductance L=4 H. If the current is doubled, what will be the new self-inductance of the inductor?

Asked in GSEB Board March 2023 · Self-inductance and self-induced EMF

Answer: (1) 4 H

Step-by-step solution

Idea: self-inductance depends only on the coil itself.

For a solenoid L=(μ₀N²A)/ℓ: turns, area, length and core; the current does not appear.

Doubling I doubles the flux linkage NΦ, so L=(NΦ)/I keeps the same value.

So the self-inductance is still 4 H.

Why the other options are wrong
