The equivalent inductance of the circuit shown in the figure, between A and B, is ________. (Neglect any mutual inductance between the coils.)

Step-by-step solution

Given: a 0.75 H coil in series with two 0.5 H coils that are joined to each other at both ends.

Idea: with no mutual inductance, inductors combine exactly like resistors.

Parallel pair: Lₚ=(0.5×0.5)/(0.5+0.5)=0.25 H.

The pair is in series with the 0.75 H coil: L_eq=0.75+0.25.

So L_eq=1.0 H.
