X and Y coils are joined in a circuit in such a way that when the change of current in coil X is 2 A, the change in the magnetic flux linked with coil Y is 0.4 Wb. The mutual inductance of the system of two coils is ______ H.

Asked in GSEB Board July 2015 · Mutual inductance and induced EMF

Answer: (3) 0.2

Step-by-step solution

Given: Δ I_X=2 A, ΔΦ_Y=0.4 Wb.

Idea: the flux linked with Y is proportional to the current in X, Φ_Y=MI_X, so ΔΦ_Y=M Δ I_X.

M=(ΔΦ_Y)/(Δ I_X)=(0.4)/2.

So M=0.2 H.
