A coil has N turns and current passes through it is I ampere then we obtain L Henry of self inductance. Now if current is made doubled then new self inductance will be ________ H.

Asked in GUJCET 2026 · Self-inductance and self-induced EMF

Answer: (2) L

Step-by-step solution

Idea: self-inductance is a property of the coil alone, not of the current in it.

For a solenoid L=(μ₀N²A)/ℓ: it is fixed by the turns, the area, the length and the core.

Read from the definition L=(NΦ)/I: doubling I doubles the flux linkage NΦ too, so the ratio is unchanged.

So the new self-inductance is still L henry.

Why the other options are wrong
