Idea: surface charge density is the charge spread over unit area.
σ=(Δ q)/(Δ S)
Charge is measured in coulomb and area in square metre, so the unit is C/(m²), that is C m⁻².
Compare: λ (per length) is in C/m and ρ (per volume) is in C/(m³).
So the unit of σ is C/(m²).
