Idea: the loop rule says that around any closed loop the algebraic sum of the emfs equals the algebraic sum of the IR drops: Σε = Σ IR.
Potential is energy per unit charge. A charge taken once around a closed loop comes back to its starting point with the same potential energy.
So the energy it gains from the emfs equals the energy it loses in the resistors.
The loop rule is therefore a statement of the law of conservation of energy.
