The resistances of an ideal current meter (ammeter) and an ideal voltmeter are _____ and _____ respectively.

Asked in GUJCET 2016 · Ammeters and voltmeters in circuits

Answer: (2) 0, ∞

Step-by-step solution

Idea: a meter must not change the circuit it measures.

An ammeter is connected in series. To leave the current unchanged it must add no resistance: ideal R_A = 0.

A voltmeter is connected in parallel. To take no current away from the element it measures, it must have infinite resistance: ideal R_V = ∞.

So the resistances are 0 and ∞ respectively.

Why the other options are wrong
