Given: ε = 4 V, r = 0.1 Ω, external resistance R = 3.9 Ω.
Idea: the terminal voltage is the emf minus the drop across the internal resistance, V = ε - Ir.
I = ε/(R + r) = 4/(3.9 + 0.1) = 1 A.
V = 4 - 1×0.1 = 3.9 V (the same as IR = 1×3.9).
So the voltage across the cell is 3.9 V.
