In an LC oscillator, the frequency of oscillation of current is ______.

Asked in RS Academy GUJCET booklet · Frequency and current in LC

Answer: (2) ω² = 1/(LC)

Step-by-step solution

Idea: in an LC circuit energy passes back and forth between the capacitor's electric field and the inductor's magnetic field.

With I = (dq)/(dt), the loop equation L(dI)/(dt) + q/C = 0 gives (d²q)/(dt²) = -1/(LC) q: simple harmonic motion with ω² = 1/(LC).

So ω = 1/(√LC); equivalently f = 1/(2π√LC) and T = 2π√LC.

Of the options, only ω² = 1/(LC) states this correctly.

Why the other options are wrong
