Inductive reactance ______.

Asked in GSEB Board March 2023 · Reactance and frequency

Answer: (1) limits A.C. current

Step-by-step solution

Idea: inductive reactance is the opposition an inductor offers to alternating current, X_L=ω L=2π fL.

It arises because a changing current induces a back emf L(dI)/(dt) that opposes the change.

For a.c., Iᵣₘₛ=(Vᵣₘₛ)/(X_L): the larger X_L, the smaller the current.

For d.c., f=0, so X_L=0 and there is no such opposition.

So inductive reactance limits A.C. current.
