For an L-C-R A.C. circuit the resonance frequency is 500 Hz and the frequencies at the half-power points are 450 Hz and 550 Hz. What will be the Q-factor?

Asked in GSEB Board July 2018 · Power and bandwidth at resonance

Answer: (1) 5

Step-by-step solution

Given: f₀=500 Hz; half-power frequencies f₁=450 Hz and f₂=550 Hz.

Idea: the Q-factor is the resonant frequency divided by the bandwidth, Q=(f₀)/(f₂-f₁).

Bandwidth f₂-f₁=550-450=100 Hz.

Q=(500)/(100)=5.

So the Q-factor is 5.
