Idea: name the defect from where the near point has moved.
In hypermetropia the eyeball is too short, or the eye lens too weak, so rays from a near object would converge behind the retina.
The near point therefore moves further away and close work goes blurred, while distant objects stay sharp.
That is long sight, and it is corrected with a converging (convex) lens.
So hypermetropia is a long-sight defect.
