A ball is thrown vertically upward. It has a speed of 10 m/sec when it has reached one half of its maximum height. How high does the ball rise? (Take g=10 m/s²)

Asked in NEET 2005 · Vertical throws

Answer: (1) 10 m

Step-by-step solution

Given: speed 10 m/s at height h/2, g=10 m/s², and the ball comes to rest at the top.

Idea: apply v²=u²-2gs between the half-height and the top, where the velocity is zero. That avoids needing the launch speed at all.

From the half-height to the top the ball rises a further h/2.

0=(10)²-2(10)(h/2).

100=10h, so h=10 m.
