There is an electric field E in the x-direction. If the work done on moving a charge of 0.2 C through a distance of 2 m along a line making an angle 60° with the x-axis is 4 J, then what is the value of E?

Asked in CBSE AIPMT 1995 · Work done in moving a charge

Answer: (2) 20 N/C

Step-by-step solution

Given: q=0.2 C, displacement d=2 m at 60° to ⃗E, W=4 J.

Only the displacement component along the field counts: W=qEd cos 60°.

qd cos 60°=0.2×2×0.5=0.2.

E=4/(0.2)=20 N/C.
