Given below are two statements:
Statement I: A plane wave after passing through prism remains as plane wave but passing through small pin hole may become spherical wave.
Statement II: The curvature of a spherical wave emerging from a slit will increase for increasing slit width.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

Asked in JEE Main 28th Jan 1st Shift 2026 · Wavefronts and Huygens construction

Answer: (2) Statement I is true but Statement II is false

Step-by-step solution

A prism tilts a plane wavefront but keeps it plane; a small pinhole acts as a point source and gives a spherical wave: Statement I is true.

A wider slit diffracts less, so the emerging wavefront is flatter and its curvature falls: Statement II is false.

Why the other options are wrong
