Given below are two statements:
Statement (I): When an object is placed at the centre of curvature of a concave lens, image is formed at the centre of curvature of the lens on the other side.
Statement (II): Concave lens always forms a virtual and erect image.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

Asked in JEE Main 9th April 1st Shift 2024 · Lens formula and magnification

Answer: (3) Statement I is false but Statement II is true.

Step-by-step solution

Statement I: take μ=1.5, R=2|f| for a symmetric lens; object at u=-2|f|: 1/v=-1/(|f|)-1/(2|f|), v=-(2|f|)/3.

The image is virtual, on the same side, between lens and focus, not on the other side. Statement I is false.

Statement II: for any real object a diverging lens gives v<0 with 0<m<1: virtual and erect. True.

Why the other options are wrong
