Angular momentum of a single particle moving with constant speed along a circular path

Asked in JEE Main 31st Aug 1st Shift 2021 · Angular momentum of a particle

Answer: (2) remains same in magnitude and direction

Step-by-step solution

Take the reference point at the centre of the circle.

The position vector has constant length r and the speed is constant at v.

For circular motion the velocity is always perpendicular to the radius, so |⃗r×⃗v|=rv at every instant.

|⃗L|=mvr, a constant.

The direction of ⃗r×⃗v is perpendicular to the plane of the circle, and the particle never leaves that plane, so the direction is fixed too.

Angular momentum remains the same in both magnitude and direction.
