The time period of a simple pendulum is T. The time taken to complete 5/8 oscillations starting from the mean position is α/βT. The value of α is ______.

Asked in JEE Main 26th Feb 2nd Shift 2021 · Time, distance and displacement

Answer: 7

Step-by-step solution

One complete oscillation covers a path 4A, so 5/8 of an oscillation is a path of 5/8×4A=2.5A.

From the mean position the particle covers 2A in T/2 (mean to extreme and back to mean, then on); the remaining 0.5A is from the mean position out to A/2, which takes T/(12).

Total time =T/2+T/(12)=(7T)/(12), so α=7.
