The velocity of a particle is given as ⃗v = -x̂i + 2ŷj - ẑk m/s. The magnitude of acceleration at point (1, 2, 4) is ______ m/s².

Asked in JEE Main 2nd April 1st Shift 2026 · Acceleration in a plane

Answer: (2) 9

Step-by-step solution

aₓ = (dvₓ)/(dt) = -(dx)/(dt) = -vₓ = x; likewise a_y = 2(dy)/(dt) = 2v_y = 4y and a_z = -(dz)/(dt) = -v_z = z.

At (1, 2, 4): ⃗a = (1, 8, 4).

|⃗a| = √1 + 64 + 16 = √81 = 9 m/s².

Why the other options are wrong
