A ball is released from a height h. If t₁ and t₂ be the time required to complete first half and second half of the distance respectively. Then, choose the correct relation between t₁ and t₂.

Asked in JEE Main 29th July 2nd Shift 2022 · Free fall from rest

Answer: (4) t₂ = (√2 - 1)t₁

Step-by-step solution

First half: /h2 = 1/2gt₁² ⇒ t₁ = √/hg.

Whole fall: h = 1/2g(t₁ + t₂)² ⇒ t₁ + t₂ = √(2h)/g = √2 t₁.

t₂ = (√2 - 1)t₁.
