In the given circuit a 4 μ F capacitor is in series with the parallel pair 1 μ F and 5 μ F; this branch is in parallel with a 3 μ F branch, and the whole network is connected across a 10 V battery. The charge on the 4 μ F capacitor will be

Answer: (2) 24 μC

Step-by-step solution

The 1 μ F and 5 μ F are in parallel: 1+5=6 μ F.

That sits in series with the 4 μ F: C_branch=(4×6)/(4+6)=2.4 μ F.

The 3 μ F branch is across the same 10 V and does not share this chain, so the branch carries the full 10 V.

Charge in the series branch q=2.4×10=24 μC, and in a series path every capacitor carries the same charge, so the 4 μ F holds 24 μC. (It therefore has 6 V across it and the pair has 4 V.)
