The voltage and the current between A and B points shown in the circuit are ______. [Figure: a left vertical rail and a right vertical rail; A is at the bottom of the left rail and B is on the right rail. Four horizontal branches join the rails, each a 27 V source in series with 3 Ω: branch 1 has a 27 V cell and 3 Ω, branch 2 has a 27 V cell and 3 Ω, branch 3 has a 14 V cell and a 13 V cell in series (same orientation) and 3 Ω, and the bottom branch from A has a 27 V cell and 3 Ω. All cells point the same way. A diagonal wire from A to B carries two 3 Ω resistors in series and no cell.]

Figure: Combination of cells
Answer: (2) 24 V, 4 A

Step-by-step solution

Each of the four source branches is a 27 V emf with 3 Ω in series (the 14 V and 13 V cells add to 27 V).

Four identical branches in parallel act as one source: E=27 V, r=3/4=0.75 Ω.

The diagonal load between A and B is 3+3=6 Ω.

I=(27)/(6+0.75)=4 A

V_AB=I×6=24 V, so 24 V and 4 A.

Why the other options are wrong
