The angular frequency of the alternating current in an LCR circuit is 100 rad/s. From the figure the voltage across the 60 Ω resistor is 15 V, across the inductor 20 V, and across the capacitor 10 V. Find the inductance of the coil and the capacitance of the condenser.

Figure: Voltages across the elements
Answer: (4) 0.8 H and 250 μF

Step-by-step solution

Series current is common: from the resistor, I=(V_R)/R=(15)/(60)=0.25 A.

X_L=(V_L)/I=(20)/(0.25)=80 Ω⇒ L=(X_L)/ω=(80)/(100)=0.8 H.

X_C=(V_C)/I=(10)/(0.25)=40 Ω⇒ C=1/(ω X_C)=1/(100×40)=250 μF.
