The phase difference between any two points on the same wavefront would be ________.

Asked in GSEB Board July 2022 · Wavefronts and Huygens construction

Answer: (4) 0 rad

Step-by-step solution

Idea: a wavefront is defined as a surface every point of which is in the same phase at a given instant.

That definition is what makes Huygens' construction work: the disturbance left the source at one instant and has travelled the same distance to each point of the wavefront, so all of them are at the same stage of their oscillation.

Being in the same phase means the phase difference between any two of those points vanishes.

So the phase difference is 0 rad.

Why the other options are wrong
