Figure: Magnetic moment of magnets and loops
Answer: (2) √2 ⃗m

Step-by-step solution

Given: two identical magnets, each of moment m, with their axes at right angles as in the figure.

Idea: magnetic moment is a vector, so the moment of a combination is the vector sum of the separate moments.

With the two moments perpendicular, the sum is the diagonal of a square of side m: mₙₑₜ=√m²+m².

mₙₑₜ=√2m²=√2 m.

It points along the bisector of the two axes, at 45° to each magnet.
