Given: original length l, pole strength p, moment m=p l; the magnet is cut across into two pieces, each of length l/2.
Idea: pole strength depends on the area of the pole face and on the magnetisation, neither of which a transverse cut changes; the moment is pole strength times the distance between the poles.
So each piece keeps the pole strength p.
Moment of each piece: m'=p×l/2=m/2.
Check: the two pieces together carry m/2+m/2=m, as they must.
