Circular loop having radius r, carrying current J, produces magnetic field at the centre of the loop is B. What will be the magnetic dipole moment of this loop ?

Asked in GUJCET 2021 · Magnetic moment of loops and charges

Answer: (2) (2π B r³)/(μ₀)

Step-by-step solution

Given: a circular loop of radius r carrying current J, producing a field B at its centre.

Idea: read the current off the field at the centre, then feed it into the definition of the magnetic moment.

Field at the centre of a loop: B=(μ₀ J)/(2r), hence J=(2rB)/(μ₀).

Magnetic dipole moment of one turn: m=J×area=Jπ r².

m=(2rB)/(μ₀)×π r²=(2π B r³)/(μ₀).
