An electron is accelerated by a potential difference of Δ V=2 volts. The energy gained by it would be ______.

Asked in GSEB Board March 2022 · Accelerated charges

Answer: (3) 2 eV

Step-by-step solution

Given: charge e accelerated through Δ V=2 V.

Idea: the electric force does work W=q Δ V on the charge, and that work becomes its kinetic energy.

W=e×2 V.

By definition, 1 eV is the energy gained by one electronic charge through 1 V, so W=2 eV.

In joules this is 2×1.6×10⁻¹⁹=3.2×10⁻¹⁹ J.

Why the other options are wrong
