Intensity of polarisation P is the electric dipole moment per unit volume of the dielectric.
Dipole moment is charge times separation, unit C m; volume has unit m³.
[P]=(C m)/(m³)=C/m².
This fits the fact that P equals the bound surface charge density σₚ on the faces of a polarised slab.
So the unit is C/m².
