Idea: in an AC generator a coil is rotated in a magnetic field by an outside agent — a turbine, an engine, or a hand crank.
The rotation keeps changing the flux through the coil, which induces an alternating emf, ε = NABω sin ω t.
The work done against the magnetic braking on the coil is what appears as electrical energy in the circuit.
So an AC generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
