A pair of adjacent coils has a mutual inductance of 2 H. If the current in one coil changes from 0 to 30 A in 0.15 s, what is the change of flux linkage with the other coil?

Asked in GUJCET 2025 · Mutual inductance and induced EMF

Answer: (3) 60 Wb

Step-by-step solution

Given: M=2 H, Δ I=30-0=30 A, Δ t=0.15 s.

Idea: mutual inductance is defined by N₂Φ₂=MI₁, so the flux linkage with the second coil follows the current in the first.

The change is therefore Δ(N₂Φ₂)=M Δ I₁=2×30; the time does not enter a flux linkage at all.

So the change of flux linkage is 60 Wb.

(The time would matter only for the emf, (60)/(0.15)=400 V, which the question does not ask for.)
