Given: line charges +λ and -λ a perpendicular distance 2R apart, so the midpoint is R from each wire.
Idea: an infinite line charge gives E=λ/(2πε₀d) at perpendicular distance d, pointing away from a positive line and towards a negative one.
Each wire on its own at the midpoint: E₁=E₂=λ/(2πε₀R)
The field of +λ points away from it, that is towards -λ; the field of -λ points towards -λ as well. The two are in the same direction, so their magnitudes add:
E=2×λ/(2πε₀R)=λ/(πε₀R)
