The value of the stopping potential depends on the ______ of the incident light.

Asked in GSEB Board March 2020 · What the stopping potential depends on

Answer: (2) frequency

Step-by-step solution

Idea: for the fastest photoelectron, Einstein's equation gives eV₀ = Kₘₐₓ = hf - φ₀.

For a given metal the work function φ₀ is fixed, so V₀ = h/ef - (φ₀)/e depends only on f.

Intensity changes only the number of photons per second, and hence the current, not V₀.

So the stopping potential depends on the frequency of the incident light.

Why the other options are wrong
